27th October 2025, Cyberjaya
Sharing the stage with distinguished figures, including UoC Chancellor Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Hj Noor Hisham Abdullah
The President emphasised the untapped potential of Malaysia’s medical device sector. Despite a global medical device market valued at USD 1 trillion, Malaysian manufacturers transacted mere 1.1% of total market size in 2024, excluding *halal medical devices, which remains largely untapped despite MS2636:2018 The Halal Medical Device Certification is a Malaysia Standard.
During his address, the President issued a challenge to students: to invent, R&D or even reverse-engineer a Malaysian-made, export-ready medical device taking into consideration key factors such as commercial viability, manufacturing and distribution processes, certification requirements, and integration of future technologies like AI and such.
This marks the second institutional challenge issued by PERANTIM to the intellect communities, following MAHSA University in 2024. The President expressed hope that University of Cyberjaya will rise to the occasion and contribute to shaping Malaysia’s global footprint in the medical device industry.
