Had a superb and brilliant session with YBhg Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz CEO of MATRADE. Discussed about the road map of Medical Devices Industry, the growth, prospects, inhibitors, audit capabilities or the lack of it, expert shortages and many others. There is also issue on Malaysian over-reliance of critical medical devices every time pandemics occurs.
The recent pandemic was in a way, a blessing in disguise. Many international buyers commented to PERANTIM that Malaysian manufacturers are generally very good and reliable partners, compared to others in the neighbouring countries. We are able to sail thru the turmoil despite the uncertainties of raw materials, labour restrictions/shortages, escalating costs, and still able to meet the demand at fairly price. Yet, Malaysian Medical Devices Manufacturers are only exporting meagre 4%-5% of global market. Plenty of rooms more to grab.
